Los Gatos, CA (June 25, 2007) – Community Hospital of Los Gatos and the Tenet Healthcare Foundation will sponsor the towns of Saratoga, Campbell and Los Gatos’ Relay for Life® events in June and July with a $7,500.00 grant to help provide cancer research and awareness.
The Saratoga Relay was held on June 23rd, at Redwood Middle School. The Campbell Relay is scheduled for July 14th & 15th at the Campbell Community Center Track and the Los Gatos Relay is scheduled for July 21 & 22nd at the Fisher Middle School in Los Gatos.
Relay For Life® is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship, raise money for research and programs, help those who have been touched by cancer and empower individuals to fight back against this disease. During Relay events, teams of people gather and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. Walkers and runners walk or run around the clock in the battle against cancer during Relay for Life®. Relay is much more than a walk around a track, it is also a time to remember those lost to cancer and celebrate those who have survived. It is a night for people who have shared the same experience to comfort and console one another.
A luminary ceremony takes place on Friday evenings as cancer survivors, friends and family circle the track rimmed with luminaries. Participants remember loved ones who were lost to cancer and honor survivors. Luminaries can be purchased by contacting the American Cancer Society.
