Los Gatos, California – June 13, 2008 – Community Hospital of Los Gatos recently announced they have acquired the G-Trainer™ Anti-Gravity Treadmill™. The advanced technology G-Trainer™ treadmill is sold by Alter-G, Inc of Menlo Park. The machine is designed to allow one to manage by one (1%) percent increments the patient’s effective body weight when running or walking. Athletes step into a bubble-like compartment that fits tightly around the waist and zips together allowing freedom of the upper body, while the lower body is contained in an airtight chamber. This new piece of anti-gravity equipment, originally designed at NASA, was developed to help people improve mobility and health, recover from injury and surgery more effectively, overcome medical challenges limiting movement, and enhance physical performance.
Orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, and other clinicians are invited to see the G-Trainer that is housed at the Physical Performance Institute (PPI) located at 555 Knowles Drive, Suite 100, Los Gatos. The PPI is a therapy department of Community Hospital of Los Gatos. Therapists on staff can help satisfy patients therapy needs with advanced treatment modalities and therapeutic equipment such as the G-Trainer. The G-Trainer is comfortable, does not restrict mobility, and allows for natural body movement without the resistance of water experienced in a pool or restrictions of a harness and allows individuals to concentrate on natural body movement.
The G-Trainer may be used for rehabilitation of the lower extremity after injury or surgery, aerobic conditioning, weight control, gait training for neurological conditions, strengthening and conditioning for older patients.
Many lower extremity rehabilitation programs stress the importance of becoming mobile as soon as possible after injury or surgery. Unweighting is a natural choice for many therapists and patients because pain or other limitations are often a factor.
Patients should obtain a physician referral from their physician to use the G-Trainer™ Anti-Gravity Treadmill™. For more information about the G-Trainer or the Physical Performance Institute call 1.888.257.5476.
